The life I live today is bittersweet. Although my life is incredible, and I wouldn’t change it for the world, it pains me to see how much suffering there still is due to mental illnesses and addiction. I learned a long time ago that the most powerful tool I have is my story, and I can potentially use it to help others.
I wanted to write this to help people understand that you don’t need special powers to overcome mental illness or addiction. I’m just a normal guy who was given a second chance at life and never wanted to return to the dark place from which I came.
The only reason that I’m alive today and live the life I live is because of one word: hope.
My entire life, I felt absolutely hopeless. From the time my parents divorced when I was 4, to when I felt different from everyone else in high school, to when I reached the point of where I was content with dying, I never had hope. Something changed for me back in June of 2012 where I saw that maybe I could live a new life that was actually worth living.
It’s my goal of this book to share with you how my mental illness and addiction progressed and what I did to overcome the issues so that I can potentially provide you with hope.
