The loss of Michael Collins in 1922 was a great tragedy for the Irish people and nation. His murder has gone unsolved for over 100 years. Many theories have been proposed and been challenged and several books have been written about it. Some contradict each other. The murder of Michael Collins needs to be seen in a wider context in terms of who had the most the gain from it and who had the means to do it, the power to do it, and to successfully cover it up. Many threads need to be tied together to reveal the who, the how, and the why for this murder and the reasons for the concealment of, the destruction of, and cover up of vital evidence in the aftermath of his murder.
New evidence has come to light concerning the murder of Michael Collins in 1922. The evidence includes new forensic evidence, the uncovering of new eye witness evidence, admissions of guilt and more corroborating evidence. This corroborates prior evidence, including eye witness testimony at the time and other evidence which emerged gradually over the last 100 years. Forensic evidence does not lie and mislead and does not suffer memory lapses and memory losses. The new evidence disproves some evidence and allegations, and enhances others, while giving one a much deeper insight into the events surrounding the assassination and the agendas and characters involved at the time. All of this new evidence is consistent and points in the same direction. The great efforts made to cover up and conceal this evidence and the facts so as to misdirect people away from what actually happened on the day reveals sinister motives and self interest by those people with a vested interest in the killing and removal of Michael Collins and the maintaining of a lie for many decades. This new evidence and the evidence –based conclusion serves to add further credibility to a suspicion long held by many people. The weight of evidence points to a certain person who had the motive, opportunity and means to carry out the murder and the ability to cover up and use the resources and power of the Free State to cover up.
